چکیده

For the sLHC phase I, the ATLAS detector will be upgraded by installation of an additional Pixel Detector layer. The new layer will be inserted between the B-layer of the existing pixel detector and a new smaller radius beam-pipe. This upgrade requires development of several new technologies to cope with increased radiation doses to which the apparatus will be exposed, signi cant rise of the particle ux density and further improvement of the detector physics performance. One of the means to achieve these goals is a signi cant reduction of the pixel size, the use of deep sub-micron technologies for the read-out chip fabrication, novel materials for the stave construction, advanced methods for detector cooling etc. In the present phase of the project, some key components are being developed in several options.

The ATLAS Insertable B-Layer: from construction to operation

The ATLAS Insertable B-Layer (IBL) is a fourth layer of pixel detectors, and has been installed in May 2014 at a radius of 3.3 cm from the beam axis and between the existing Pixel detector and a new smaller radius beam-pipe. The new detector, built to cope with high radiation and occupancy, is the first large scale application of 3D detectors and CMOS 130 nm technology. The IBL detector constru...

Detector Control System of the Atlas Insertable B-layer

To improve tracking robustness and precision of the ATLAS inner tracker, an additional, fourth pixel layer is foreseen, called Insertable B-Layer (IBL). It will be installed between the innermost present Pixel layer and a new, smaller beam pipe and is presently under construction. As, once installed into the experiment, no access is possible, a highly reliable control system is required. It has...

Characterization of new hybrid pixel module concepts for the ATLAS Insertable B-Layer upgrade

The ATLAS Insertable B-Layer (IBL) collaboration plans to insert a fourth pixel layer inside the present Pixel Detector to recover from eventual failures in the current pixel system, especially the b-layer. Additionally the IBL will ensure excellent tracking, vertexing and b-tagging performance during the LHC phase I and add robustness in tracking with high luminosity pile-up. The expected peak...

Improvements to ATLAS Track Reconstruction for Run II

Run II of the LHC will provide new challenges to track and vertex reconstruction with higher energies, denser jets and higher rates. A major change to the Inner Detector layout during the shutdown period has been the installation of the Insertable B-Layer, a fourth pixel layer located at a radius of 33 mm. This contribution discusses improvements to track reconstruction developed during the two...

ATLAS IBL: a challenging first step for ATLAS Upgrade at the sLHC

With the LHC collecting data at 7 TeV, plans are already advancing for a series of upgrades leading eventually to about five times the LHC design luminosity some 10 years from now in the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project. The upgrades for ATLAS detector will be staged in preparation for HL-LHC. The first upgrade for the Pixel Detector will be the construction of a new pixel layer, which will...
